What is the Door County Green Fund?

The Green Fund provides a specialized avenue for people concerned about the protection of Door County's environment and, therefore, its economy, to contribute to local land protection efforts. Contributions from any business, foundation, or individual are welcome. Local businesses, recognizing the obvious connection between preservation of the natural environment and as a result the tourist-driven economy that sustains them, are the largest contributers to the fund both in membership numbers and dollar amounts.


 
  
 
What has the Green Fund accomplished thus far?

Since its founding in 1998, the Door County Green Fund has awarded grants for land preservation/acquisition purposes to Crossroads at Big Creek, Sturgeon Bay; the Village of Ephraim; the Door County Land Trust; The Nature Conservancy; the City of Sturgeon Bay; and the Door County Parks Department. Hundreds of acres have been permanently protected in Door County with the help of Green Fund monies.

  
Mission Statement

The Door County Green Fund is a private, non-profit organization established to contribute to the permanent protection of a variety of open space areas and, therefore, the unique quality of life treasured by Door County residents and visitors. The Door County Green Fund encourages voluntary contributions from businesses, foundations and individuals in order to distribute those funds to organizations involved in land preservation in the county.

Our Goals

The Door County Green Fund will serve as a funding source for local conservation efforts. The fund will provide an avenue for local businesses, foundations and individuals to contribute to such efforts and be recognized through display of the Green Fund logo which will encourage residents and visitors to patronize businesses and organizations funding local land protection.
All monetary contributions to the Door County Green Fund will be distributed to local preservation organizations. Each grant shall be used for the direct protection of a specific open, agricultural and/or environmentally sensitive area.
